FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
what will virtual membership look like?
The bonds that our siblings share with each other are not maintained through the in-person events that we host, but rather the values we share. Our chapters have come up with some innovative ways to maintain their siblinghood, stay connected, provide support to one another, and live out their values during the Coronavirus pandemic. We encourage you to ask about what each chapter has planned for this fall.
Is it possible to be involved in a sorority and other organizations?
Absolutely! Joining a sorority is a big time commitment, but there are many members who are involved in other organizations, work part-time jobs, and locally volunteer. Ball State Panhellenic encourages members to be involved outside of Greek life to share their passions in other places.
I am a legacy to a sorority. What do I need to know?
Each chapter views legacy status differently. Some consider only children and siblings of an alumnae to be a legacy. Some extend that status to grandchildren, cousins, and other biological relations. No chapter is obligated to extend a membership invitation to a legacy. Likewise, you should not feel pressure to join or pursue a certain sorority because of your legacy status.
Do I have to pay anything to go through recruitment?
The cost of participating in primary recruitment is $15.00. This includes the online Recruitment booklet, a customized Recruitment bag filled with Recruitment supplies like a Panhellenic Association button, a Panhellenic Association magnet, a customized hand sanitizer, mints, etc., and a five dollar service fee. The registration cost for primary recruitment is non refundable.
If most of my classes are online and I am living at home due to COVID-19, can I still join a chapter?
Our chapters’ inter/national organizations are still creating plans and guidelines for this fall regarding expectations/requirements for membership in their organizations. We encourage you to ask each group you visit during recruitment what their membership experience will look like in the fall for students whose classes are completely online or who are uncomfortable attending in-person events.
Will my dues be cheaper this year due to COVID-19?
Federal, state, local and university guidelines have severely impacted the ability for group meetings and events. Ball State University PHA sororities are working towards creating potential budgets and that will directly affect the cost of membership. This is still being determined by national organizations and local chapters.
